Isla Corazon Coastline Conservation

Isla Corazon is a community ecotourism and conservation project whose aim is to protect and preserve the fragile mangrove ecosystems on the island. The island is home to many species of mangroves, and its unique ecosystem and was declared an important Wildlife Refuge by the Ministry of Environment in 2002. This project aims to use coastline conservation techniques as well as the education of the community to preserve this fragile ecosystem.

Why This is Important

Isla Corazon Coastline Conservation Mangroves are a complex ecosystem that form a natural barrier against the sea on the coast. The fragile ecosystem is a breeding ground for baby fish, shells, clams, oysters, crabs, and other sea animals who require the shelter pf Mangroves to reproduce. When Mangrove forests are destroyed it directly affects the entire food chain and even threatens migratory birds who rely on the area for food with extinction. Already 90% of Ecuadors Mangrove Forests have been destroyed.

*Meals, however food is relatively cheap to buy in the local market, kitchen will be available for cooking!
